Book Coaching

For writers who want on-going accountability and feedback as they work to complete their manuscript, I offer book coaching. Submit on a regular deadline (schedule to be mutually determined--typically weekly or bi-weekly) and get feedback focusing on content (plot, character development, structure, pacing, point of view, theme) and a summary (~1 page) of my overall impressions, general ideas for improvement, and suggestions for how to move forward with the project.
Cost
$30/10 pages (250 words per page, standard manuscript formatting*)
$60/20 pages

Manuscript Critique
For writers with complete drafts, I provide an overall analysis focusing on areas such as plot, character development, structure, pacing, point of view, and theme.  In addition, I provide a written critique (1-2 pages typically) with my impressions of the manuscript's strengths, ideas for improvement, and suggestions for how to move forward with the revision process.

$200/up to 100 pages (25,000 words/250 words per page/standard manuscript formatting*)
$250/up to 200 pages (50,000 words)
$300/up to 300 pages (75,000 words)
$350/up to 400 pages (100,000 words)

Developmental Editing

For writers wanting more detailed feedback, I provide an overall analysis plus extensive in-text notes and comments (using Track Changes) on specific elements of your manuscript focusing on plot, character development, structure, pacing, point of view, theme, and language. This typically includes suggestions to improve flow and clarity, to avoid repetition, and to improve diction, as well as some editing for grammar, punctuation, spelling or typographical errors, although the degree of detail depends on how polished the manuscript already is. Please note, this is NOT a line edit or proofread. In addition, developmental editing includes an editorial letter (2+ pages typically) with a summary of my impressions, ideas for improvement, and suggestions for how to move forward with the revision process, and a follow-up discussion via email.

Query Letters
 For those who are pursuing traditional publication, I critique and edit query letters, focusing on appropriate structure, compelling voice/use of language, and effective synopsis of the plot. Often I suggest ways in which the writer can tighten the letter for greater impact and clarity, and to help highlight key ideas and information. In addition, I provide a brief (~1 page) note with suggestions for improvement, rationales for suggested edits, and coaching on the querying process.
$60/250-400 word letter: includes initial edit/feedback and feedback/edit of 1 revision (additional rounds of revision available for $20 each)

*Standard manuscript formatting is double-spaced 12 pt. Times New Roman font with 1-inch
  margins. I reserve the right to properly format any manuscript I receive and charge accordingly.
